Congratulations Daisy Twayana, the 2023 Study NT International Student of the Year.

Daisy Twayana, a passionate advocate for international students and a champion for social work, has been named the 2023 Study NT International Student of the Year.

From Nepal, Daisy has made significant contributions to her university, Charles Darwin University (CDU), and the wider community, demonstrating her commitment to social justice and her dedication to enhancing the student experience for international students.

In 2022 she led a podcast project Being International, providing a platform for international students to share their experiences with cultural shock, mental health, employment and the unique challenges of social work. Daisy is the Founder and President of the Social Work Inclusive Student Society at CDU. 

Daisy is also actively involved in charity work, volunteering with senior women’s group, Knit and Natter, donating the products to not-for-profit organisation Wrap with Love. Additionally, she helps organise events during Dementia Action Week, volunteers at Connected Women Darwin by Red Cross and Happy Families community dinner.

Recently, Daisy was conferred with the 2023 Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) Award for Social Work Student of the Year.

Daisy stands as an exemplary role model for international students worldwide. Her passion for social work, her dedication to community engagement and her unwavering advocacy for international students makes her a true inspiration. Congratulations, Daisy!
