2023 International Students Welcome Reception

On Thursday 9 March 2023, recently arrived international students were formally welcomed to Australia’s Northern Territory by Minister for International Education, the Hon Ngaree Ah Kit MLA.

The International Students Welcome Reception, held at Parliament House, is a unique opportunity for international students to meet their peers, Territory multicultural organisations and learn about events and activities in Darwin.

At the reception, international students had the opportunity to hold some of our friendly ‘locals’ including snakes, lizards and baby saltwater crocodiles, have some fun in the photo booth, meet with local cultural organisations and businesses and receive a moving Welcome to Country by The Youth Mill performers, Edwin Fejo and Rowan Guyula.

The Welcome Reception also included the announcement of the 2022 Study NT International Student Awards:

  • Thi Tho (Rosie) Nguyen - 2022 Study NT International Student of the Year
  • Yuqing (Crystal) Zhao - 2022 Study NT International Student Volunteer of the Year
  • SAMAF Accountants & Consultants - 2022 Study NT International Student Employer of the Year

Congratulations to all finalists and winners of the 2022 International Student Awards – a fantastic opportunity to celebrate international students studying in the Northern Territory, and to showcase their achievements, as well as the local businesses that employ and mentor them.

In addition to announcing the Study NT International Student Awards, seven international students were presented with a 2022-23 Study in Australia’s Northern Territory Scholarship certificate for their academic excellence, community engagement and leadership.  See the scholarship recipient profiles.

Australia’s Northern Territory is rich in community and culture, and it was wonderful to warmly welcome the international students who have chosen to study here.
