Voiceover: On track to commence operations in 2020, Equatorial Launch Australia’s Arnhem Space Centre will be Australia’s first commercial space launch facility, servicing government, research and commercial customers.

Voiceover: Located just 12 degrees from the equator, launching from Arnhem Space Centre takes full advantage of the earth’s rotation to gain extra velocity, improving payload to fuel ratios.

Voiceover: The facility will initially be equipped with three launch pads and accommodate sub-orbital and small orbital satellite launch vehicles, and its design allows for support of all current and future launch and recovery technologies.

Voiceover: The launch facility is located just outside of Nhulunbuy, in the Territory’s East Arnhem region, a regional service hub equipped with a high quality airport, deep water port, hospital, schools, accommodation and optical fibre connectivity.

Voiceover: Equatorial Launch Australia has agreements with proven launch vehicle providers as well as international launch customers, and NASA is planning to conduct its sounding rocket campaign from their facility.

Voiceover: NASA is no stranger to the Territory, establishing its stratospheric ballooning facility in Alice Springs in the early 1970s.

Voiceover: Why? Alice Springs and Central Australia have perfect weather conditions for balloon launches, and the established road network, together with low population density, make payload recovery easy.
Over the last four decades the facility has hosted numerous ballooning campaigns for the US, French and Japanese space agencies.
Alice Springs is the ideal place for stratospheric ballooning.

Voiceover: The Territory’s geographic and climatic conditions and very low background light and radio frequency pollution, make it an ideal location for ground stations.
This is why US multinational Viasat partnered with Alice Springs-based CfAT Satellite Enterprises and Indigenous Business Australia to construct another ground station for its global Real-Time Earth Network.
Alice Springs is also home to one of the ground stations that forms part of the global Landsat Network, with CfAT Satellite Enterprises providing facilities maintenance.
CfAT Satellite Enterprises has the capacity to host two to three additional ground stations, and also has access to equity finance.

Voiceover: The Territory’s wide open spaces and low-density population make it the perfect location to establish a technology testing facility that ensures minimal risk to people or the environment.
Whether testing of rocket componentry or other cutting edge technology, there are numerous sites available for establishment of a new testing facility.
