Tourism

Based on the growth targets of the Northern Territory (NT) tourism industry strategy 2030, an estimated 3000 additional rooms, across all categories, are required in the NT.

Investment opportunities range from three to five star hotels in the capital city and regional towns to luxury eco-lodge style accommodation in, or adjacent to, some of our natural heritage attractions such as UNESCO World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park.

Why the Territory

The NT is a well-established tourism destination offering a range of unique natural and cultural experiences to national and international leisure visitors. Additionally, its diverse economy draws significant corporate travel visitation, and the growing sectors of cruise ships and business events are also driving the visitor economy.

In the year ending September 2019, total visitation to the NT grew 6.7% to 1.95 million.

The NT’s tourism industry strategy 2030 sets an ambitious target for the visitor economy of between 2.51 million and 3.03 million visitors by 2030.

A strong forward pipeline of projects across the Territory, continued investment in the tourism industry by government and forecast growth across the visitor economy provides an ideal investment climate.
